What to Expect

Your First Appointment

Your first appointment will be 60 minutes. You will be asked to give a full and detailed medical history, so that we can understand the cause of your symptoms and whether it is safe for you to be treated here.

You will then be asked to undress, usually to your underwear, so that we can assess your body as a whole — please bring shorts if this is more comfortable for you. You will be asked to do some movements so that we can see how your body moves and we will usually do some further examination to decide what the problem is.

After the Examination

We will tell you whether we can help you or not. If we can, we will decide, with you, on the best course of treatment. If your problem is not suitable for osteopathic treatment, we will write to your GP to tell them this, with your permission.

Follow-Up Visits

Follow-up treatments may last between 30 and 60 minutes. Some patients only need one or two treatments; others may need a course of treatment. We aim to improve your symptoms and mobility and give you exercise and lifestyle advice to manage the problem at home.

Our Commitment

Accessible Care for Everyone

We believe that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental part of living well, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it. From the very beginning, our vision has been to create a clinic that serves the whole community.

We are proud to offer concessionary rates for members of our community who may be experiencing financial hardship, including those receiving Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and other eligible benefits. This is part of our commitment to making professional, evidence-based healthcare more accessible.

If the cost of treatment is a concern, we encourage you to speak with us. We understand that everyone's circumstances are different, and we will always do our best to ensure that finances are not a barrier to receiving the care you need. At Heathrow Allied Health, we are committed to treating people, not bank balances.

Everything You Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an osteopath do?
Osteopaths use hands-on techniques, movement assessment, and advice to help improve mobility, reduce pain, and support your body’s natural healing. Treatment often focuses on joints, muscles, and posture.
What conditions can osteopathy help with?
People commonly visit for back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, joint stiffness, sports injuries, sciatica-type symptoms, headaches linked to neck tension, and posture-related discomfort. If you have a medical condition or worrying symptoms, we’ll advise if you should see your GP first.
What happens at my first appointment?
We’ll discuss your symptoms and medical history, assess how you move, and examine relevant areas. You’ll then receive a tailored treatment plan which may include hands-on treatment, exercises, and lifestyle/posture advice.
Does osteopathic treatment hurt?
Treatment is usually comfortable, but some techniques can feel firm, especially in sore areas. Many people feel looser afterwards. Mild temporary soreness can occur for 24–48 hours, similar to post-exercise aches.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the issue, how long you’ve had it, and your goals. Some people notice improvement in 1–3 sessions, while longer-standing or complex problems may need a course of care plus home exercises. We’ll review progress and adjust the plan as you go.
